Tips on cruising on a longboard skateboard?

I just got a gravity longboard. It's about medium length 32in maybe. I'm stoked to cruise around on it, but I really want to avoid eating pavement. Any tips on going downhill, carving, stopping or any other basics would definitely help. Thanks!
Grats on the board bro! There are a few little things to make it not so scary. lol. When you push, depends on how you ride, if you push with your back foot, then make sure your front toes are not to far ahead of the trucks, cause when u lean forward, the board is going in the other direction. Carving down is all about feeling the board, Carve going

If you scared of falling, sk8ing isn't for you. I been at it half my life and I still eat s**t once in a while. Its part of the fun and the only way to get better.

Adjust your trucks depending on what you want to do and make sure you have wheels that are big and sticky so you won't slide out and hurt yourself!!!

going downhill: jus relax and keep ur knees bent. if ur naking a little sharp turn and u feel like ur about to fall , spread out your arms like wings for balance
carving: loosen ur trucks more so u could feel the carving. it is kinda diffrent since u have to use a bowl. when u go up the ramp. straighten ur legs and start to lean at a

I'm new to longboarding and wondering what kind of longboard is the best to get for a beginner. I was thinking of getting the hyper carve 2. http://www.gravityboard.com/pages/gstore /boards/hc2.html
I'm still new to longboarding so I'd like something that can take speed fairly well and limit my speed wobbles. I've never skateboarded
hmm huper carve 2s are more designed to be used as dancing board. Not even close to sliding or DH. If you want good DH get landyachtz evo. It's best DH board evermade also can be used as all around. Loaded Dervish is fine too. I have it and I love it.
