How do I prepare to work at a surf shop?

Currently, I live in Hartford County, Connecticut in the United States, but next year I'm going to school in South Australia. I'd love to work at a surf shop sometime while I'm there, but I obviously can't gain any experience at a surf shop here. I cannot commute a hour a day to the Connecticut coastline to work at any water sport shops or beaches.
Real surf shops sell surfboards. Other so called "surf shops" sell clothes and accessories with some surfboards on the walls. If you want to be prepared for the latter, just dress cute and have a tan before you apply. If you want to work in a real surf shop and don't surf, then understanding a few basic principles of surfboard selection

a friend of mine needed $250,000 to open a board shop at the mall plus $150,000 in the bank for emergency funding. but it really depends where you live.

I really want to get sponsored by a surf shop near my house, its not a big shop and not many people out of the town but i could easily get sponsored for skimboarding and I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT BENEFITS I GET FOR SPONSORSHIP
The benefits of shop sponsorship are different from shop to shop.
Generally, you would get a discount on products.
Free shop stickers, and a t-shirt and maybe some other shop merchandise.
Some consumable items would be free like wax, hardware, etc.
Paid entrance into competitions.
